Jet planes are designed for speed, but they're far from the fastest things we've ever created. Rockets are plenty fast too, but they still don't take the cake. The truth is, the answer to the question, "what's the fastest human-made object?", is multifaceted. On one hand, there's the Helios 2 probe, which was launched in January of 1976 out of Cape Canaveral, Florida. It's the definitely fastest object we've created intentionally.
The Helios probe reached its top speed three months after launched. It was during its closest pass of the Sun — just over 27 million miles from its surface — and it reached a nearly unfathomable speed, clocking in over 157,000 miles per hour. While that's definitely the fastest object we've ever made with the intention of reaching high speed, there's another object that might have reached even greater speeds, though it was entirely accidental.
