Neutron stars are quite the item. They're the product of a star 50 million times the size of Earth collapsing — the end result is something that may only be 7 miles wide, but with a mass twice that of the Sun's. The process is called a "starquake", and below is a NASA artist's rendering of what it might look like:

Meet PSR J1748-2446. This is the neutron star of neutron stars, a god amongst mere mortals. It's not only 50 trillion times more dense than lead, it's also the fastest-spinning celestial object in the known universe. This particular neutron star is just under 10 miles wide, and at its equator, the speed it's spinning at is nearly 25% the speed of light. If you're in the neighborhood, you might want to steer clear of this pulsar. A visit would surely be fatal.
