Scott Kelly and Mikhail Kornienko left the Earth on March 27, 2015, as a part of a special year-long stay at the International Space Station. They recently passed the halfway point of their trip, the entirety of which has been as well-documented as any other major event in the age of social media. In other words, we're seeing more from this mission than possibly any previous one.

Kelly has had Twitter-based Q&As, he has posted consistently to Instagram, and he's been active on Facebook all while he's been up in space. We've seen a lot of what he's done during the mission, but something that's gone largely unreported was his time before the trip. TIME followed Kelly and Kornienko in the days leading up to launch, and it's an understandably emotional period. They've brought their story to life with a beautiful video series, A Year In Space.

Check out Episode 4 — Launch below and let us know what you thought in the comments. How would you feel about your father going to space for a year? When the gorgeous short film is over, be sure to share it with your friends on Facebook!
